Advisory

Red Flag Warning – For mountains and foothills of Los Angeles. Cooling Centers open in San Gabriel

A prolonged heat wave will continue across southern California through Tuesday. The hot temperatures combined with low humidities, relatively light winds, and increasing instability will bring the potential for large plume dominated fire growth over the local mountains and adjacent foothills today if fire ignition occurs. While humidities will be slightly higher than Sunday from Monday into Tuesday there will continue to be hot temperatures and even greater instability that could potentially lead to large fire growth. Poor humidity recoveries and warm temperatures at night will add to the fire danger across the mountains and adjacent foothills.

In response to the weather, city officials have opened the Asian Youth Center in San Gabriel as a cooling center:
San Gabriel Asian Youth Center
(626) 309-‐0622
100 West Clary Ave. 91776
9 AM - 6 PM

Residents can also visit the San Gabriel library but call in advance to make sure that there is available seating. For a list of other cooling centers across Southern California view the link for additional information or call the county at 211.

TEMPERATURES
Highs in the 90s to 102 across lower mountain elevations, and up to 105 degrees in adjacent foothills. Very warm overnight, lows in the 70s to around 80 across lower elevations.

FIRE BEHAVIOR
Any fire ignition will have the potential for large plume dominated growth over the mountains due to hot temperatures, low humidities, relatively light winds, increasing instability and extremely dry fuels.

IMPACTS
If fire ignition occurs there could be rapid spread of wildfire that would lead to a threat to life and property.
