Judge sends Marion man to prison for 20 to 29 years for multiple sex offenses; charged by McDowell County Sheriff's Office 
Leon Ward Jr., 42, of Rockhouse Road in Marion, pled guilty in McDowell County Superior Court Thursday to six counts of statutory sex offense, two counts each of first-degree sex offense and statutory rape and one count of first-degree rape.
Judge Alan Thornburg sentenced Ward to 240 to 348 months, or 20 to 29 years, in prison.
Detective Billie Brown of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Ward in August 2013 with the offenses. She said the victim was a 9-year-old acquaintance of Ward’s, and the incidents occurred between May 7 and July 16 of last year.
