Girl Code--the PAL Edition!

Sign up to now to be part of the next Girl's Circle at the Fairfield PAL Center. 

The Fairfield Police Activities League (PAL), working with Fairfield Soroptimists are accepting signups for the next Girls Circle program.   The Girls Circle Program promotes resiliency and healthy relationships in adolescent girls. The purpose of Girls Circle is to encourage the development of strength, courage, confidence, honesty, and communication skills for all girls ages 13 to 18. The goal of the Girls Circle Program is for them to be able to take full advantage of their talents, academic interests, career pursuits, and potential for healthy relationships.   The next circle, our 11^th, will begin on Wednesday October 1, 2014. 

Girls Circles are uniquely positioned to address and challenge cultural messages that limit and distort girls' self-image, and provide a female-responsive rites-of-passage process to support identity development. The Circle program has been found to improve girls' self-expression within a safe caring environment, which encourages self-confidence, authenticity in relationships, and enhanced judgment skills.  

The Circle meets on Wednesday nights between 5:30-7:30pm.  To attend, young ladies must be able to commit to attending all 8 sessions.    This Circle is made possible by a generous donation from AT&T California and the support of Soroptimist International of Central Solano County.  Limited space is available for the current circle.  The next circle will begin on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 and will focus on being Wise & Well.

Teen girls are literally bombarded with potential risks to their safety in all areas of their lives - whether it is living in the technological age of cyberbullying, sexting, and online predators or dealing with the high prevalence of binge drinking and marijuana use, depression, anxiety, coping with emotional pain or experiencing hardships at home.
In this Circle, girls and their trained facilitators walk through the myriad of common 21st Century. That includes discussions and activities that inspire girls to have wide open eyes, to have sharp and aware minds, and to take responsibility for their own health and safety. Activities include navigating the digital world of cyberspace, social networking and texting etiquette, practicing coping skills, decision-making and "being in charge" in relation to drinking and drug use, and busting the stigma about mental health. In this circle, girls find that their true desires, power, best intentions, and shared knowledge are robust resources to stay safe and whole on their path toward womanhood.

A PAL Membership is required to join the Circle.  The Fairfield PAL Program at the Sullivan Interagency Youth Center (2195 Union Ave, Fairfield) is open to Fairfield, Suisun, and Travis students enrolled in grades seven through twelve. Memberships are $10 per year and can be purchased at the Fairfield Community Center (1000 Webster Street) Mon-Thursday between 11:30-5:30pm. A current student ID is required to register.  The PAL Center is located at 2195 Union Ave, in Fairfield CA.

Dinner is provided at each session by the membership of the Fairfield Soroptimists.
