On September 8, 2014 at approximately 11:30 pm, San Luis Obispo Police Officers responded to the Chevron Station at 151 Santa Rosa for the report of an assault victim inside the business. When officers arrived they found a 27 year old female with significant injuries covering her entire body hiding inside the business. The injuries on the victim consisted of burn marks, lacerations, scratches, bruising, and extreme swelling. She also had tape tangled in her hair.

During their initial investigation officers learned the victim was assaulted by suspect Timothy Hayes at his residence in the 500 block of Jeffrey. Hayes bound the victim with tape then assaulted her with a knife, scissors, a pool que-stick, and burned her with kitchen utensils. Hayes held the victim against her will and continued to threaten and assault her for approximately two hours before she was able to escape.

Officers responded to Hayes’ residence and took him into custody without incident. Detectives were called in to follow up with the investigation and obtained a search warrant for Hayes’ residence. A search of his residence revealed numerous items of evidence corroborating that an assault had taken place. In addition, two weapons including a .22 caliber handgun and a high power rifle were seized.

Based on his symptoms and demeanor it is believed that Hayes was possible under the influence of a controlled substance at the time of his arrest. Hayes was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on the below listed charges:
