Street Slurry Sealing Begins September 20, 2014

Slurry sealing of the streets, alleys and parking lots on various areas throughout the city will begin on Sept. 20, 2014. Attached is a copy of the tentative schedule.

What work will be done?
The surface treatment that will be applied to your streets is called slurry seal. A thin layer of asphalt emulsion (a mixture of small aggregate, asphalt, and water) will be applied. The initial curing time, when the water evaporates and the emulsion becomes a harder surface, can take anywhere from four (4) to five (5) hours. The slurry seal will continue to cure over the next six (6) to eight (8) weeks.

As the surface treatment continues to cure, loose gravel will shed from the roadway surface. This is normal and will decrease over time.

Where will the slurry sealing take place?
The project locations will be the following:

• Streets and alleyway areas bounded by the west city boundary, Sheldon St., Mariposa Ave. and El Segundo Blvd.
• Rosecrans Ave. between Alma Ave. and Sepulveda Blvd.
• Vista del Mar between Grand Ave. and 45th St.
• Public parking lots and city lots
