Sergeant Wanda Clay Retiring after 25 Years with Indiana State Police

Lowell-Indiana State Police Sergeant Wanda Clay is retiring from the state police after serving the citizens of Indiana for twenty-five years.

Clay was born and raised in Lake County and graduated from Horace Mann High School. She attended Calumet College of Saint Joseph and earned an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor Degree in Organizational Management. Clay received her Master’s Degree of Science-Business from Indiana Wesleyan. She also attended Northwestern University Police Staff and Command School and ISP Command College.

Clay graduated from the Indiana State Police Academy in November of 1988 and was assigned to the Lafayette Post. She transferred to the Toll Road District where she patrolled Lake and Porter Counties for nine years. In 1997 she was promoted to Corporal to serve as the
district duty officer overseeing various line command and administrative duties at the Lowell Post. Clay was promoted again in 1999 and served as a squad sergeant for ten years at the Lowell Post before transferring to the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED); were she has served as a squad sergeant (covering Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Jasper, Newton, Pulaski, and Starke Counties) until retiring.

During her career, Sergeant Clay has served as a Certified Primary Instructor for 10 years, was a First Responder Instructor, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Child Passenger Safety Instructor, TOPS (seatbelt) Instructor, Field Training Officer, Field Training Coordinator, CVED Level 1 Inspector, Haz-Mat Inspector, Motorcoach Inspector, and on theTactical Intervention Platoon.

Sergeant Clay has earned countless certificates from supervisory seminars and training she has attended throughout her twenty-five years.

Clay is retiring to become a civilian motor carrier inspector in the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division. She lives in Lake County with her family
