On 9-7-14, at about 12:57 PM, officers were sent to the intersection of Industrial and Grand Street on a report that a person there in a black vehicle had been shot. Officers found the vehicle and the WM 28 that had been driving. He had been shot in the lower back. A female witness had been in the car with the man at the time of the shooting. She was not injured. Officers found that before he was shot, the victim had located a black male that he believed had taken a cell phone and money from him at a motel near IH-40 and Ross the night before. The man returned in the morning and located the suspect. He then notified the police. Officers met the victim there and made contact with the suspect. There was not enough evidence to arrest the suspect at that time. After the suspect was identified and released pending investigation, the victim followed the man when he left the motel. While the complainant was following him, the suspect pulled into a driveway near the 2800 block of Ridgemere. He stepped out of the vehicle and produced a handgun. He fired several shots at the complainant’s car. One of the shots penetrated the trunk and hit the complainant. Both men drove away from the scene. Officers located the scene and collected six .380 caliber cartridge casings. The victim was transported to the hospital by ambulance for the non-life threatening injury. Officers located the suspect vehicle and suspect believed to be involved in this incident later in the day and he was booked on unrelated charges.
