Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports that his deputies handled a personal injury crash at the intersection of Kessington Road and Mason Street on September 4th, 2014 at 6:13 PM in Mason Township, Cass County MI.

Ms. Kristy Barks, 24 years old from Cassopolis, was traveling south on Kessington Road. According to her statement and the witness statement, she stopped at the stop sign at the intersection, but failed to see the motorcycle that was traveling east on Mason Street. She proceeded into the intersection and collided with the motorcycle. The motorcycle was driven by 43 year od Michael Alwine of White Pigeon. When the motorcycle was hit it slid and struck a vehicle that was stopped at the stop sign in the northbound lane of Kessignton Rd. That vehicle was driven by 67 year old Russell Fish of Cassopolis. Mr. Fish and Ms. Barks did not sustain any injuries. Ms. Barks also had her son in the car with her at the time of the crash, he did not sustain any injuries either. Mr. Alwiine was airlifted to South Bend Memorial for treatment of his injuries.

Seatbelts were worn at the time of the crash but Mr. Alwine was not wearing a helmet.

Porter Township Fire and Ambulance, Edwardsburg Ambulance, MSP Niles and Med Flight all assisted deputies at the scene of the crash which remains under investigation.
