On Friday, August 29, 2014, the Oakland Pride Weekend was officially started off in high style with the TransVision Trans Pride Gala at City Hall, sponsored by Mayor Quan and Council Members Kaplan and McElhaney. Among community partners being honored at the event, the Oakland Police Department received the Trans Community Partner Award for Improved Community Relations, Outreach, and Partnership. Mistress of Ceremonies and TransVision Program Manager Tiffany Woods presented the award to Police Chief Sean Whent, who accepted the award on behalf of the Department. TransVision, a program of Tri-City Health Center in Fremont, is an award-winning resource for transgender, transsexual women in Alameda County.
