Robbery Suspect in Custody
Jackson County: Last Thursday, August 28 two bank robberies were committed approximately one hour apart in Jackson County; one at the Centra Credit Union in Seymour and one at the People’s Bank in Crothersville. Indiana State Police, Seymour Police Department, and FBI investigators have been working tirelessly on the investigation since. Over the course of the investigation, investigators developed a suspect and 22 year old Evan Stewart of Shelbyville, Indiana was arrested yesterday by Forest Park, Ohio police and is currently being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Stewart is accused of bank robberies that occurred in late July in Forest Park and Clifton in the Greater Cincinnati area. He is also the suspect in two bank robberies that occurred in the Louisville, Kentucky area in early August as well as the two Jackson County robberies last week. Formal charges of robbery are expected to be filed against Stewart in Jackson County later this week or early next week.
Detective Roger Drew of the Indiana State Police commented, “The cooperation and sharing of information between the Indiana State Police, Seymour Police Department, the FBI and other law enforcement agencies in Ohio and Kentucky along with the tips investigators received from the public were key to solving these robberies.”
Persons arrested are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
