Advisory

Residents/Businesses, please join the Emergency Notification System - Blackboard Connect & Social Media Platforms

Emergency services and preparedness of today now necessitate the use of Web and Social Media resources. The City of Menlo Park has many platforms to disseminate and receive information in the event of an emergency. The City’s website is www.menlopark.org, and is the central location for all of our City department information and programs. News and current events are also available on the site and residents and business owners in Menlo Park can sign-up to receive various alerts under the “Notify Me” application. News releases and alerts are sent out from this site.

Blackboard Connect

The City of Menlo Park uses the Blackboard Connect notification service to send residents and businesses critical information about our community, such as emergency notifications to include natural disasters, hazards, road closures, utility problems, locating a missing child or at risk missing adult, etc.

In an effort to update and have the most accurate information in our system, we invite you to participate in this emergency notification service and/or update your information. With the Blackboard Connect service, we can reach you by phone, text or e-mail within minutes. Participation is 100% free and completely voluntary.

You can go directly to the City of Menlo Park website at www.menlopark.org/EmergencyAlerts to sign up and/or update your information. We know your personal information is confidential, and we will not share it with anyone. The City of Menlo Park utilizes the Blackboard Connect service for emergency and outreach purposes only.

Social Media

The recent Bay Area earthquake is a reminder for us to update our contact information and consider alternative communication resources. The City of Menlo Park also offers Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Nixle and Nextdoor as ways of disseminating and receiving non-emergency and emergency information. While these forms of digital media are useful for disseminating current events, newsworthy items or social information, in an event of an emergency, Facebook, Twitter and Nextdoor have proven to be useful sources of additional emergency methods of communicating. These three platforms are two-way communication avenues for the public and the City to also utilize.

The City of Menlo Park’s Social Media platforms are located at www.menlopark.org/SocialMedia. You can follow us on Twitter, Like us on Facebook, view City related informational videos on YouTube, and view photos/messages on Instagram.

We also encourage you to communicate with your neighbors utilizing Nextdoor (https://nextdoor.com/find-neighborhood/ca/menlo-park/), which is a free private social network for your neighborhood.

For more information on the City’s social media and emergency notification platforms or if you need assistance with signing up to these applications, please contact Nicole Acker at [email protected] or (650) 330-6325.
