Gang member arrested with loaded handgun in waistband.
On 8/30/14 at approximately 12:30 am, two deputies from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Multi Agency Gang Enforcement Unit, (MAGNET) were patrolling the area of Sunset Avenue and McMinn Avenue in Santa Rosa. While in the area of 945 Sunset Avenue at the southeast corner of Roseland Elementary School they observed several subjects trying to hide behind a fence and row of trees. Recently there has been an excessive amount of gang graffiti in the area and the deputies stopped to investigate.
As the deputies stopped their patrol vehicle, two of the suspects immediately ran westbound on Sunset Avenue with the deputies giving chase. After a brief foot pursuit both suspects were caught. The suspects were identified as Jose De Los Santos and Ivan Martinez, both 18 years old from Santa Rosa. When De Los Santos was arrested he was searched by deputies and a loaded 9mm handgun was found in his waistband.
De Los Santos was booked for Possession of a concealed firearm, Carrying a loaded firearm in public while active in a street gang, Participation in a street gang and Resisting/obstructing arrest. Martinez was arrested for Resisting/Obstructing arrest.
Both suspects were booked at the Sonoma County Jail for the above listed charges.
