Sheriff's Helicopter rescue on Pine Flat Road

On 8/30/14 at approximately 12:52 PM, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Helicopter Henry 1 was requested to respond to the BLM land located at the top of Pine Flat Road in northeast Sonoma County. It was reported that a subject was suffering from a heat related injury in the area. The Henry 1 crew responded from the Santa Rosa area and arrived in less than ten minutes. Upon arriving on scene, The Henry 1 crew located a 29 year old male patient in a heavily vegetated ravine, approximately 300 yards east of the ridge top road.

The pilot landed the aircraft on a ridge top and configured the aircraft for a long line rescue for the second time in the last 24 hours. The Pilot flew two crew members on the long line to the patient. The patient was apparently unable to walk out of the area on his own. The patient was placed in a rescue device and flown out of the ravine on a 100 foot long line with the two Henry 1 crew members. After safely on the ridge top landing zone, the patient was treated by the Henry 1 Paramedic and released to a friend.

The entire Henry 1 crew routinely trains for long line rescues in the ocean, on cliffs and other remote areas located along the North Coast. For additional information on the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Helicopter unit, please visit www.friendsofhenry1.org
