Early Morning Business Check Leads to Felony Arrests


Ripon, CA – On 08-29-14, at approximately 1:15 am, Sergeant Stephen Meece and K-9 officer Mike Perry were conducting an early morning business check at the Ripon Shell gas station located in the 300 block of E. Main St. During the business check, the officers observed what appeared to be a male driver, slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle in the parking lot. The officers checked on the welfare of the vehicle occupants. The driver initially appeared to be unconscious. A female passenger was also contacted in the vehicle.

During the course of the contact, the driver was found to be on searchable probation. During a search of the suspect’s vehicle, K-9 officer Mike Perry and his dog “Kilo” located narcotics paraphernalia. Officers also located suspected stolen property, including several victim’s identification and credit cards. The vehicle occupants were taken into custody without incident.

Matthew John Bruns (34) of Ripon, was booked into the San Joaquin County jail on charges that included possession of controlled substance paraphernalia, theft with a prior conviction, and possession of burglary tools.

Angela Renee Bevill (44) of Ripon, was booked into the San Joaquin County jail on charges that included possession of controlled substance paraphernalia, theft with a prior conviction, possession of a forged access card and possession of burglary tools.

Ripon detectives are in the process of contacting victims in this case to help identify property that was reportedly stolen from a number of vehicle burglaries in Escalon, Riverbank and Modesto.
