Sheriff's Office to Host 1st Annual Explorer's Competition

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – The Harris County Sheriff’s Office will host the first annual HCSO Explorer’s Competition on Saturday at Westfield High School in Houston, Texas. Police Exploring Posts from at least 33 surrounding jurisdictions will participate in the competition hosted by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Police Exploring programs offer young men and women exposure to careers in law enforcement in a structured team oriented environment. Posts are established in partnership with the Boy Scouts of America, and consist of both male and female Explorers.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office operates the largest Police Exploring program in the State of Texas, and the second largest program nationwide. In 2011, Sheriff Adrian Garcia formed the first Post at the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Since inception the program has grown to 235 Explorers operating eight posts throughout Houston and Harris County.

Garcia will deliver opening remarks at the competition’s convening Saturday, August 30, 2014. Joining Sheriff Garcia are deputies C. Velez and G. Hendry, two former Explorers who recently rose into the ranks of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
