Hollenbeck Community Police Station has an important message for the community! Burglary Alert.

Burglary is a crime that can affect all of us. There are steps you can take to deter residential burglaries. These crimes are occurring most frequently Monday through Friday between the hours of 7a.m. and 4p.m. in some cases burglary suspects are knocking on residence doors and burglarizing homes with no answer. Many burglaries are crimes of opportunity, with suspects often entering homes through unlocked windows, unlocked sliding glass doors, apartment doors, or unlocked garage doors.

The Los Angeles Police Department is making every effort to combat this problem. Since community awareness is the key to prevention, we need your assistance.

Here are some home security tips:

·         Lock all doors and windows, including rear and garage doors, before leaving the residence.

·         Ensure that sliding glass doors have strong working locks. 

·         Record the serial numbers of your electronic and computer equipment and keep in a secure location.(you can also use your smartphone to record your items)

·         Secure jewelry and other high value items in a safe or safe place. 

·         Verbally acknowledge someone is home if there is a knock at your door, but do not answer / open the door. 

·         Install surveillance cameras or alarm system.

If you observe suspicious activity contact the police immediately by calling 911 (emergency) or 877-ask-lapd (non-emergency) (877) 275-5273 and continue to monitor the activity from a safe location if possible. 

Important: please try to obtain a description of the suspect(s)’ physical appearance, actions, and any vehicle descriptions including license plates numbers. Do not confront suspicious individuals under any circumstances. For more burglary prevention information log on to lapdonline.org
