Investigation into a Shooting in the Town of Windsor
On August 28, 2014 at approximately 9:29AM, the Windsor Police Department was dispatched to a convenience store on Windsor River Road in Windsor. A caller to 911 reported that a white car drove up and dropped off a male. The man was bleeding profusely. The car drove away with several occupants.
Within two minutes of being dispatched, Deputies and medical personnel responded and located an adult male bleeding from a gunshot wound. The man was alive and transported to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Numerous Sonoma County Sheriff’s Deputies and CHP swarmed the area. The roadway at Windsor River Road and Windsor Road was temporarily closed for the investigation. Sheriff’s Helicopter, Henry 1, circled above the scene. Detectives from Violent Crimes, Property Crimes and Crime Scenes Investigations immediately responded as well.
Many citizens called into the Sheriff’s Office with information about the possible sighting of the suspects. Soon a man was spotted running near the businesses along the Town Green area. Henry 1 updated the path of the man and directed Deputies to him. He was apprehended by Deputies.
Windsor High School was locked down temporarily. A notification was sent to law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for a white Hyundai sedan. It was said to be occupied by more than one person and that the gun used on the victim could possibly be within.
While that portion of the investigation was unfolding, Deputies and Detectives went to a residence with multiple out-buildings on Starr Road in the Town of Windsor. At the location, they found evidence of a crime.
The crime scene was extensive and CHP was summoned to temporarily close the roadway on Starr at Burgundy. More Sheriff’s personnel was needed so Deputies assigned as Bailiffs in the Hall of Justice were dispatched. Detectives began to author a Search Warrant for the residence.
Several of the involved parties were taken to the Sheriff’s Office Investigations Bureau. They were interviewed by Detectives. No names are being released at this time as the investigation is just underway.
The victim, who was sent to the hospital with gunshot wounds, is expected to survive his injury.
The case is being actively investigated by the Violent Crimes Investigations Unit of the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Tip Line at 707-565-2185.
