Advisory

Prescribed burn tomorrow - Aug 28th in South Travis County/Hays Co.

Tomorrow, Aug 28th, the Austin Water Utility’s Wildland Conservation Division plans to conduct a prescribed burn on the Little Bear Creek tract of Water Quality Protection Lands if weather conditions are appropriate.. The burn is approximately 180 acres adjacent to a burn completed on August 20th.

Please share this information with fellow neighbors.

When: Thursday, Aug 28th

How: Austin Water’s Wildland Conservation Division in cooperation with the Austin Fire Department, local Emergency Service Districts, the Texas A&M Forest Service, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will manage the prescribed burn to ensure it is carried out safely.

Why: Prescribed burns are a land-management tool used by Austin Water’s Wildland Conservation Division to decrease the density of brush and encourage growth of native grasses which improves the quality and quantity of water recharging the Barton Springs segment of the Edward’s Aquifer. Prescribed burns safely mimic the natural fire cycle and maintain fire-resilient landscapes for the benefit of people, water, and wildlife. Visit www.austintexs.gov/rxfire for more information.

Updates: Follow regular updates about the prescribed burn at www.facebook.com/AustinWater or www.twitter.com/AustinWater

Where: Smoke may be visible west of Buda, east of FM 1826 and north of FM 967 from mid-morning to sunset. Because this prescribed burn will produce smoke in the area the public should be aware of this controlled event and use discretion when contacting emergency services.

Please feel free to share with family, friends, and neighbors. Thank you for your patience.
