Deputies From Chino Hills Station Arrested Two Burglary Suspects with More Than $20,000 Worth of Stolen Property

SUMMARY:
Deputies from the Chino Hills Station arrested two burglary suspects with more than $20,000 worth of stolen property in their vehicle thanks to quick response and detailed information given by witnesses.
On Tuesday, August 26-year-old, Justin Retana and 31-year-old Shaun Bland forced entry into a home on Bell Ridge Drive and pilfered the house, taking electronics, jewelry and personal items. As they were loading property into the car, witnesses called 9-1-1 and gave a detailed description to deputies about the suspects, their vehicle and their direction of travel. Deputies arrived within minutes of the call and were able to take Retana and Bland into custody without incident.
The victims estimated more than $20,000 in property had been taken from their home, including jewelry, watches, electronics, a television and a computer. The suspects were detained and positively identified by witnesses. The stolen property was located in the suspects’ car as well as large amount of suspected narcotics.
Bland and Retana were arrested for burglary and booked at West Valley Detention Center. The victim’s property was recovered and returned to them. Detectives also served a search warrant on the suspects’ motel room and found evidence of narcotics for sale, additional burglaries and identity theft.
During the investigation, it was discovered the suspects had gone door to door asking if neighbors had seen a lost dog. This ruse, or one similar, is often used by suspects to determine if somebody is home in order to burglarize an empty house. Officials at the Chino Hills Police Department want to remind residents to be aware of such practices and report anything suspicious to local law enforcement.
This case exemplifies awareness in the community and quick response to suspicious behaviors. The details given by witnesses in this case made it possible for deputies to act quickly and effectively and led law enforcement officials to numerous other crimes.
