Green Bay Police to conduct "Operation Frogger" regarding pedestrians right of way when in the crosswalk.
The Green Bay Police Department is again running a pedestrian safety program called Operation Frogger on August 27th at the intersection of E. Mason St. and Hartung St. from 4pm to 6pm.
Operation Frogger is an education and enforcement project designed to make drivers aware that pedestrians have the right of way if they are in a crosswalk. The safety of pedestrians is of high importance to the Green Bay Police Department. With the start of private schools last week and the Green Bay Public schools next week, the GBPD wants to create an environment where pedestrians can safely cross streets within our community.
In two previous Frogger deployments on Green Bay’s west side, Officers issued 39 citations and several warnings. Depending on the type of crossing violation, fines can run from just under $100 to over $150 dollars
A Green Bay Police Department employee will be crossing E. Mason St. at Hartung St. to see if motorists will obey the law and yield to them. Officers will be observing and anyone who does not yield will be stopped and given a written warning or citation.
