Janesville S.W.A.T. Call out

On 08/24/2014 at 4:17 pm officers from The Janesville Police Department were dispatched to a gunshot wound. The report was that a suspect had shot one victim with a rifle and was holding a second person hostage. Several officers responded and began to establish a perimeter. Incident Command was established at the corner of South Main St and East Racine Street.

Officers worked through identifying the subject and attempting contact with no success. Patrol units assembled a contact team to raise a response. They received no response after several attempts. The Janesville Police Department S.W.A.T. team, Janesville Fire and EMS, MD-1 all responded to incident command to assist in the safe resolution of the incident and to render aid if needed. Janesville S.W.A.T. entered checked and secured the residence finding no one inside.

The investigation into where the call came from and who made the call is still on going. Officers from the patrol division have verified that the subjects initially mentioned as being involved are safe and uninjured. Their association to how the call was received is still being investigated. The investigation is being turned over to the detective bureau for further follow up.
