Single Vehicle Crash in DeKalb County Claims Life of Kendallville Man
(DeKalb County, IN)-The Indiana State Police is investigating a single vehicle crash that occurred on State Road 4, near Hudson late last night that resulted in the death of a man from Kendallville.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Grant Crabtree indicated that at approximately 11:00 p.m., a 1997 BMW driven by 23 year old Noe Munoz-Rubio was traveling eastbound on State Road 4 at County Road 11 when it left the south side of the roadway.
The BMW rolled over and struck a tree before it came to a rest on its top. Munoz-Rubio, who was wearing his seatbelt at the time, was trapped and had to be extricated by the Ashley Fire Department. He was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne by Samaritan for head, neck and facial injuries. His condition is not known at this time.
Munoz-Rubio's passenger, 24 year old Christopher J. Hatch of Kendallville was ejected from vehicle as a result of the impact. He was reportedly not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the DeKalb County Coroner. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in this crash, which is still under investigation.
The State Police was assisted by the DeKalb and Steuben County Sheriff Departments, the Ashley Police and Fire Departments, DeKalb County EMS, DeKalb County Coroner and Samaritan.
