The North Brunswick Police Department wants residents to be aware of a recent sporadic increase in residential burglaries. Most of these incidents are happening in the neighborhoods adjacent to the Route 27 corridor, between Route 27 and Jersey Avenue. Most incidents appear to happening between 2pm and 8pm.
The Department is investigating each of these crimes and pursuing several leads. In addition, residents should take reasonable precautions to protect their homes and belongings. First, lock all exterior windows and doors. Lock any gates leading to yards. Lock vehicles, especially if there is a garage door opener in that car. Monitor landscaping and cut back anything overgrown near windows that may block the view of potential witnesses. Report suspicious activity, including unfamiliar persons and vehicles within your community. Note license plates of unfamiliar or suspicious vehicles if possible. Be wary of "pretextual contacts", such as suspects knocking on doors to determine if the residents are home or out. Lastly, in case you are targeted, consider placing any valuables such as cash and expensive jewelry in an alternate or hidden location. Most burglars will target master bedrooms looking for such items.
