Three New Troopers Hit the Road at Lafayette

Lafayette—Indiana has 46 new troopers assigned to state police districts throughout the state now patrolling the roads. Members of the 73rd Indiana State Police Recruit School that graduated on May 1st, 2014 received their patrol cars today at the Indiana State Police Youth Education and Historical Center, located at the Indiana State Police Indianapolis District.

The troopers received approximately 917 hours of structured training at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. Their curriculum included; administrative subjects, general police subjects, investigations/criminal subjects, criminal and traffic law subjects.

The new troopers then completed a three month field training period with seasoned troopers where they were observed applying the knowledge and training that was gained at the academy and applying it to real life situations.

The three new Lafayette District troopers are:

Probationary Trooper David R. Vido grew up in Lake County and graduated from Griffith High School in 2010. He attended Ball State University before entering into the academy last fall. Vido will be assigned to the south zone which encompasses Benton, Warren, Fountain and Montgomery Counties. Vido resides in Tippecanoe County.

Probationary Trooper Dexter Whitten grew up in Tippecanoe County and attended Jefferson High School in Lafayette. After receiving his G.E.D, Whitten attended Ivy-Tech College in Lafayette before joining the Army National Guard in 2008. He will be patrolling the north zone which encompasses White, Carroll, Clinton and Tippecanoe Counties. Whitten resides in West Lafayette.

Probationary Trooper Jared K. McQueary was born in Vigo County but grew up in the Lafayette area. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 2008 and received an Associate Degree from Ivy-Tech Community College in 2011. McQueary will also be assigned to the North Zone. McQueary and his family reside in Tippecanoe County.
