Local Detective Promoted

Ripley County: Yesterday afternoon Indiana State Police Superintendent, Doug Carter announced the promotion of Detective Dan Elmore of the Versailles Post to the rank of sergeant who will now serve as a Crime Scene Investigator (CSI). Sergeant Elmore began his career with the Indiana State Police as a dispatcher at the Pendleton Post in 1994. In 1996 he left that position to attend the 54th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy graduating in December of that year. His first district assignment was Versailles where he was assigned patrol duties in Dearborn County and later in Ripley County. In 2004 he was promoted to corporal where he served as a District Duty Officer. In 2007 to took a voluntary reduction in rank and went back to the road as a trooper. In 2009 he was reassigned as a detective in the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit and in 2013 he received an assignment as a Versailles District detective until his most recent promotion to CSI.

During his career, Sergeant Elmore has served as a Gaming Enforcement Detective, as a member of the Tactical Intervention Platoon, Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, and Digital Media Recovery Specialist. With his new assignment, Sergeant Elmore will be responsible for processing crime scenes, collection and preservation of evidence, transportation of evidence to and from the state police laboratories and various courts, as well as disposal of evidence as ordered by the court or directed by department policy.

Sergeant Elmore is a 1991 graduate of Avon High School and he attended IUPUI where he earned an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. He currently resides in Ripley County with his wife, Paula and their two children.
