One Injured in Single Semi Crash

Dearborn County: Yesterday afternoon a single semi crash resulted in a minor injury and tied up traffic along I-74. According to Trooper Randel Miller, yesterday afternoon just before 1:00 a 2006 Freightliner semi loaded with shingles driven by 58 year old Mark A. Troyer of Middlebury, IN was westbound on I-74 near the 162 mile marker when a large piece of concrete approximately 2 cubic feet fell from the S.R. 46 bridge into the westbound lane of I-74. Troyer was unable to avoid the concrete and struck it head on. After impact with the concrete the semi traveled into the median where it overturned. The S.R. 46 bridge is currently undergoing major repairs and it is believed the piece of concrete became dislodged as heavy machinery on the bridge was in use.

Troyer suffered a minor injury to his to his leg. Tpr. Miller commented, “Thanks in large part to seat belt use, Mr. Troyer only suffered a minor injury.” The clean up resulted in the closure of both east and westbound passing lanes slowing traffic for a couple of hours. Tpr. Miller was assisted by other troopers, Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department, St. Leon Fire Department, and Sunman EMS.
