Media Release

Hawaiʻi Island police will increase enforcement of drunk driving as part of a national campaign called “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” which started August 15 and runs through September 1. During the campaign, police will conduct 20-30 sobriety checkpoints island wide.

Impaired driving while intoxicated on alcohol continues to be a concern in Hawaiʻi County. In addition, police have noticed an increase in driving while impaired on illegal drugs, prescription medication or both. Police remind motorists not to operate a motor vehicle if your prescription medication or physician advises against doing so.
