This morning, 8/15/14, at about 10am, Oakland police officers and Oakland Housing Authority police officers served a firearm and violence related search warrant within the 800 block of 37th Street. The search warrant was safely served without property damage, use of force, or injury to residents or officers.

Traffic was uninterrupted on the block but a highly visible police presence was maintained during the search warrant and follow-up investigation. Officers explained the reason for their presence to nearby neighbors and affected occupants. Our outreach and explanation on the street and on social media platforms is to advise and inform our community. We are aware that often, although our presence and actions are designed to serve and increase public safety, actions without explanation can add to fear and mistrust.
