Cass County Couple Arrested for Allegedly Growing Marijuana
Lucerne – Yesterday, a narcotics investigation by Indiana State Trooper Ben Reason led to the arrests of Kevin Murray, 47, and April Sexton, 48, both from rural Lucerne, IN. They were incarcerated in the Cass County Jail to face criminal charges for maintaining a common nuisance, cultivating marijuana, and possession of marijuana.
Yesterday, troopers were utilizing a helicopter to conduct a spotting mission for illegal marijuana growing operations within the seven counties covered by the Indiana State Police Peru District. The illegal crop is usually planted in cornfields of unsuspecting farmers. The flights are part of the Indiana State Police Marijuana Eradication Program. During the spotting mission, officers allegedly observed a marijuana plant growing near a house at 3888 East 850 North, Lucerne. Murray and Sexton live at that residence.
A Cass Circuit Court search warrant was obtained for the house and surrounding out buildings.
During the execution of the warrant, officers purportedly found multiple marijuana plants and numerous items associated with growing, processing, and consuming marijuana.
Trooper Reason was assisted in this case by Indiana State Police Lt. Chad Larsh, Indiana State Police First Sergeant Bob Burgess, Indiana State Police Sergeant T.J. Zeiser, and Trooper Michael Biggs.
