Kids in Sonoma and the Sonoma Valley area will be returning to school this Monday August 18, 2014. Please plan on taking a little extra time for your morning commutes. You may want to plan alternate routes away from school zones as well since traffic is usually congested during morning drop off and afternoon pick-ups.
Sonoma Police will have extra officers assigned to traffic duty next week and will pay special attention to school zones, crosswalk, right of way and speeding violations.
Also, if your child rides their bicycle to school they must wear a bicycle helmet and ride in the same direction as traffic.
Funding for these extra traffic officers is provided by a grant with the State of California Office of Traffic Safety.
