Labor Day DUI Checkpoints/Patrols

Labor Day (September 1st) is just around the corner and marks the unofficial end of summer. To keep everyone safe, The San Diego County Sheriff's Department will be out in force looking for drunk drivers.

Deputies will be taking part in DUI checkpoints on the following dates leading up to Labor Day:

• Friday, August 15th
Santee and Vista

• Friday, August 22nd
Santee and San Marcos

• Saturday, August 23rd
Solana Beach

• Friday, August 29th
Imperial Beach and Lemon Grove

• Sunday, August 31st
Del Mar

Deputies will work with other law enforcement agencies during DUI checkpoints on August 23rd (Oceanside) and August 30th (National City). The Sheriff's Department will also be conducting increased DUI patrols around the Del Mar Fairgrounds between August 15th and September 1st.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 10,000 people are killed each year in crashes caused by drunk driving.

"There's no excuse for drunk driving in San Diego County," said Sheriff Bill Gore. "There will be zero tolerance for anyone caught driving drunk, especially during the Labor Day Weekend. Remember: DRIVE SOBER OR GET PULLED OVER!"

If you do drink, here are some sober ride options:
