Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station- Looking for New Team Members: Meet the Lost Hills Sheriff's Mounted Posse Unit

Title: The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Mounted Posse Unit is Looking for New Team Members

Narrative:

You have probably seen them walking down the local parade routes, or gracefully patrolling the beaches of Malibu during the summer months.  If you have ever wondered what the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Mounted Posse was all about, or even wanted to know how to be a part of it, then here is your chance to get informed.

Originally a combined unit with Santa Clarita posse, the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Posse established itself as an individual team in September 2013.  The Posse has been involved in everything from search and rescue to patrolling local shopping malls to walking miles of beaches as part of the Lost Hills Station Beach Team.  Representing the Sheriff's Department at many different community events, the posse is formed by sworn Reserve Deputies and Civilian Volunteers, and is supervised by Deputy Selnick from the Lost Hills Station.

If you have a passion for equestrians and are interested in giving back to the community, consider volunteering for the Sheriff's Mounted Posse. The team is currently looking for new members.  As a posse member, expect to put in about 20 hours per month of training, meetings, and events.  Some of these events include patrolling the city of Hidden Hills, The Calabasas Commons, the Malibu/Lost Hills Station Open House, and other station and community functions.  In order to be eligible, members must own their own horse, saddle, trailer, and must have access to a tow vehicle.  The Sheriff's Department will provide the "uniform" for the horse.  The posse team leaders will determine if both horse and rider meet the program requirements.  Team members should expect an in-depth application process and will be required to meet the Department's standards and testing requirements.

For more information on the team and how to apply, contact deputy Selnick at [email protected].
