Chula Vista - Officers from the Chula Vista Police Department conducted a Distracted Driver Operation on Thursday August 14, 2014 between the hours of 4 PM and 9 PM within the City of Chula Vista.

Distracted driver operations concentrate on drivers talking on their cell phones or texting while operating a motor vehicle.

During this operation, stops were conducted on 83 vehicles. 54 drivers were cited for utilizing their cell phone while driving, 19 drivers were cited for texting. 7 drivers were cited for either having a suspended driver’s license or no license at all. 3 vehicles were impounded during the operation for the driver having a suspended license or no license issued. 2 other citations were written for a red light violation and not having vehicle insurance.

This was considered a successful operation. The Chula Vista Police Department is continuing its efforts to keep our community safe by encouraging drivers to follow the rules of the road.
