On August 10, 2014 at approximately 2:30 AM the police department responded to an emergency 911 call that a robbery with a handgun was occurring at the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity located at 244 California.

Based upon a provided description the first officer on scene located the suspect, later identified as s/AKINS, in the courtyard area of the residence. The officer could see the suspect confronting one of the victims. As the officer arrived on scene with his service weapon drawn he announced his presence and commanded the suspect’s compliance. The suspect failed to comply and attempted to flee. The officer, not seeing a weapon, holstered his service weapon and engaged the suspect in order to physically restrain him from fleeing. The suspect continued to violently resist and a couple of helpful citizens intervened to assist the officer. As other officers arrived on scene the suspect continued to fight and he bit one of the officers. Fortunately no one was seriously injured as a result of the suspect’s actions and s/AKINS was taken into custody. The suspect’s handgun was recovered and secured.

S/AKINS was arrested for Robbery with a firearm, Assault on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.

Based upon information provided as the call was unfolding s/FORT was located driving a vehicle that was leaving the scene as incoming police units were responding to the area. Further investigation revealed s/FORT’S involvement in the crime and he was arrested for Robbery.

As the investigation continued SLOPD detectives were able to determine the involvement of several other people in the commission of this crime to include s/LOVE, s/BRITO and s/IVORY.

In the morning hours of August 10th these three suspects were located on the Cal Poly campus and arrested for their involvement in the Robbery. s/LOVE was booked for Robbery. s/BRITO and s/IVORY were booked on Conspiracy to Commit Robbery.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department is working closely with the Cal Poly Police Department. This is an on-going investigation as SLOPD detectives are conducting further interviews and collecting additional evidence.
