TYPE OF INCIDENT: Brandishing suspect arrested

WEAPON USED: Handgun

SUSPECT: Justin Bristow, 29 year-old, San Mateo resident

SUSPECT VEHICLE; 1998 Blue Volvo V70

SUMMARY:

On August 8, 2014, at approximately 5:39 pm, officers responded to the unit block of Pelican Lane in Redwood City on a report of a subject brandishing a handgun. The suspect got into a verbal altercation with tenants of the complex during his visit with a relative and brandished a handgun at them before entering his vehicle to leave. During the suspect’s hasty departure, he narrowly avoided colliding with another vehicle in the complex and brandished the handgun at the other driver before fleeing in his vehicle.

At approximately 5:46pm, Belmont Police Department began receiving reports that the suspect was driving around Belmont brandishing the handgun from his vehicle. Belmont officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted to conduct a high-risk stop on the vehicle. The suspect initially stopped but fled at a high-rate of speed as officers approached the vehicle and was eventually lost by pursuing officers.

Detectives were able to locate an address associated with the suspect in San Mateo. At approximately 10pm, San Mateo detectives located the suspect’s vehicle parked near the San Mateo residence. Redwood City detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect and search warrant for his residence.

At August 9, 2014, at approximately 5:00am the suspect was taken into custody in front of his San Mateo residence and the Redwood City Police SWAT Team served the search warrant at the residence. Detectives located a replica handgun firearm during the search which is believed to be the handgun the suspect brandished.
This was a joint investigation conducted by the Redwood City, Belmont, and San Mateo Police Departments. The suspect was booked into the San Mateo County Jail. Anyone with information regarding this suspect or this incident is encouraged to contact Redwood City Police Detective Dave Cirina at 650-780-7607.
