Detective charges pair with breaking into storage building and stealing $9,535 worth of property
Detective Billie Brown of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged 36-year-old Tammy Lara Gibbs, of U.S. 70 West in Old Fort, and 33-year-old Jennifer Diane Paul, of U.S. 70 West in Old Fort, each with three felony counts of obtaining property by false pretense, one felony count of breaking and entering and one felony count of larceny.
The two had been living in a home on Pine Valley Drive owned by Paul’s sister, Nancy Newton, of Mount Airy, Ga.
Brown said, while there, Gibbs and Paul allegedly broke into a storage building on the property owned by John Paul, of Old Fort, and stole $9,535 worth of items, including power and hand tools, a washer and dryer, old coins, two ladders, chairs, three push mowers, two frying pans and an air system.
Some of the property has been recovered.
