Advisory

Kids are back in school tomorrow, 08/13. GPD reminds drivers to drive safely this school year. See our FB page for full info.

It's that time of year where kids and college students head back to school.  The Glendora Police Department would like to remind drivers and students of safety precautions to help us keep everyone safe.

Drivers:

*Slow down in school zones.  Watch for kids exiting vehicles and crossing the street, child safety is a priority.

*Be alert, children are unpredictable and are likely to dart between cars or they forget to look both ways before crossing the street.

*Do not park in "No Parking" zones which include red curbing.  Parking in these zones not only inhibit emergency vehicles, but they limit sight visibility for others.

*When dropping your kids off at school please allow yourself an extra few minutes in case traffic is heavy.

*Do not text or talk on the phone while driving.

Walking to and from school:

*Follow traffic signals and rules when walking.  Cross the street at crosswalks or intersections with crossing guards whenever possible.

*Make sure your kids know a safe route to get to and from their school.  Map out a route and check periodically to make sure that the kids are following the route.

*Encourage your children not to walk alone, the "Buddy" system is always best!

*Teach your children to be aware of their surroundings.  They should be aware of slow moving vehicles or parked vehicles that appear to be occupied.  Teach them to tell an adult if they feel uncomfortable about what is taking place.

*Always stop, look all four ways and listen before crossing the street at corners and crosswalks.  Never cross between parked cars.

*Do not text while walking.

The Glendora Police Department is committed to doing our best to keep the community safe.  Please partner with us by doing your part, and together we will have a safe school year.
