“Police Blotter” Highlights – Ending August 6th, 2014

On Thursday, 07/31/2014 at 10:20am, Ofc. Blanchard contacted several individuals at a homeless encampment off Whipple Rd near Amaral Dr. Three individuals were on probation with search clauses. One male on probation was found to be in possession of a billy club and was taken to jail. A second male and a female were found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. They were cited and released. A fourth male subject was also arrested for a felony warrant. All arrestee’s were transported to Santa Rita Jail.

On Friday 08/01/2014 at 11:36am, a person was walking to the Bank of America on Decoto Rd to make a deposit. A subject approached her, brandished a knife and demanded her purse. Fearing of her safety, she relinquished the purse which contained an envelope with about $4400 cash. The subject fled on Decoto Rd toward BART. An extensive area check was conducted but officers were unable to locate the subject. The subject was described as a Hispanic male adult, thin build, approximately 20 years old, 5'-5" to 5''-6" tall, with short black hair, wearing a black t-shirt and black shorts. The victim also stated that the male subject had a white cloth covering the lower part of his face.

On Saturday 08/02/2014, at about 10:09 am the owner of U.S. Cold storage called to report a possible break in at the listed business. Officers arrived and made contact with the owner and he advised that an unknown white male adult was attempting to open a door to the rear of the business. The owner could see the suspect via remote cameras and decided to call police. The suspect drove off in a late 1980’s or early 1990’s primer grey Chevy IROC-Z Camaro. The owner advised that the same male successfully broke into the business about a week prior; however he was not able to take anything at that time. The owner provided UCPD with a photo of the vehicle and is going to provide video of both incidents.

On Wednesday 08/06/2014, at 10:15pm, UCPD received a call of a man with gun on the 31000 block of Santa Cruz Way. Neighbors reported seeing a male subject armed with a handgun who may have fired the gun towards some of the residences. Callers informed UCPD Dispatch that the male was sitting in a van on a driveway. Officers responded and located a male sitting in the van. The male exited the van upon seeing the officers in the area. The male was detained at gunpoint based on the nature of the call and was eventually placed in handcuffs. Officers located a very real replica “BB” gun the front passenger seat of the vehicle. Officers recovered the item as evidence. It was determined that the male was outside shooting his “BB” gun at feral cats. The male was detained and later cite released on a municipal code violation.
