APD officers arrest two after early morning chase.
On Tuesday August 12th, at 2:18am, APD officer attempted to stop a vehicle on a traffic violation. The vehicle was a blue Ford Ranger and was occupied by two males. The driver of the PU pulled over for the officer in the 4200 block of S Western, however as the officer approached the PU, he took off at a high rate of speed. Another nearby officer began pursuing the PU as it was now north bound on Western. Due to the speeds and dangers to other drives in the area, officers terminated the chase and a broadcast was put out on the vehicle description. A few minutes later, an officer on patrol in west Amarillo observed the vehicle near NW 5th and Prospect. As the officer tried to stop the vehicle, both the driver and passenger bailed out of the vehicle and took off running. The passenger was taken into custody but the driver remained at large. The PU was not able to be secured as there was some type of malfunction with the ignition. Officers and K-9 began searching the area the suspect was last seen in. As they were checking alleys, and backyards, the suspect managed to get back to the PU and proceeded take off once again. Officers again chased the suspect for a short time. The suspect was traveling eastbound on SW 10th and attempted to make a turn to northbound on Travis. The driver failed to negotiate the turn and clipped a building at this intersection. The car came to a stop and the driver took off running on foot. An officer began chasing the suspect and caught up to him. The driver turned back towards the officer as if he was going to fight with the officer. The officer deployed his taser on the suspect and he was taken into custody. The driver is identified as Jimmy Wayne Guinn W/M 39. He was later transported and booked into the Potter County Correction Center on charges of Evading Arrest/Detention in a Motor Vehicle; Evading Arrest/Detention; and a local municipal court traffic warrant. The passenger was identified as Austin Drake Day W/M 20 was arrested on an outstanding local municipal court warrant and was booked into the Randall County Jail.
