NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2014 WAS INCREDIBLE!
Strong community bonds throughout the San Mateo Neighborhoods made it an amazing night.
“A strong Neighborhood Watch in our community is the antidote for rising crime. ”
- SMPD Chief of Police Susan E. Manheimer
Once again, National Night Out in the City of San Mateo was second to none thanks again first and foremost to our amazing core of Neighborhood Watch blocks. With more than 50 registered block parties on National Night Out, San Mateo once again distinguished itself as the standard bearer for Neighborhood Watch participation and commitment.
San Mateo Police, City and County Officials, Fire, and Park & Rec Personnel, had the distinct privilege of meeting, greeting, and eating with a seemingly endless number of our incredible community members, both young and old, who all took it upon themselves to turn on their porch lights and go outside and celebrate the City of San Mateo’s community commitment to safety. Our National Night Out grows stronger and larger every year thanks to our Neighborhood Watch block Captains and Board. Their efforts at organizing their neighborhood events and our city's commitment to connect with every registered block party ensure that each year our event gets larger - clearly our Neighborhood Watch Program is strong and effective!
Your San Mateo Police Department officers are proud to serve this community day in and day out and that was never more apparent than on National Night Out. We would like to personally thank our distinguished elected and civic leaders and city staff for visiting all of our registered blocks with McGruff, Fire and Police apparatus, and bringing with them a desire to bond with the city they serve! Thanks as well to all of our San Mateo Police Cadets and Volunteers who did their part to keep “McGruff the Crime Dog” safe as he traveled throughout our fine city on National Night Out. Last but not certainly not least, we are grateful to the amazing sponsors like Target Stores, PCRC, and the San Mateo Police Officers' Association who make this event possible year in and year out.
If your neighborhood missed out on National Night Out 2014, now is the perfect time to create a Neighborhood Watch in your community and be part of next year’s event. After all, a neighborhood that knows each other looks out for each other and creates the "village", as well as a sense of belonging and community. Join the 300+ blocks in San Mateo that have committed to working with their neighborhood officers as the eyes and ears that defend their neighborhood! SMPD will gladly assist and support you in creating a Neighborhood Watch program.
On National Night Out, Police, Fire, and City Officials traveled from block to block in police cars, fire trucks, the SMPD SWAT Command vehicle, and even the classic 1957 SMPD Lincoln patrol car. Join Neighborhood Watch today and make your block our newest stop in 2015.
