Putnam County—This afternoon at 12:26, Indiana State Police and Putnam County emergency agencies responded to a car versus tractor-trailer crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the 38.5 mile marker. Heavy rain was falling at the time of the crash.
Preliminary investigation revealed a westbound 2013 Hyundai four-door, driven by 33-year-old Anthony Aquirre of Arlington, Texas, lost control on the wet pavement and crossed over the grassy median into the eastbound lanes. The Hyundai then struck the rear trailer tandem axles of an eastbound 2015 Freightliner tractor pulling a box trailer and driven by 48-year-old Ajit Singh of Henderson, Nevada.
Anthony Aquirre was transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for facial lacerations and leg injuries. Seatbelt was in use.
Singh was not injured. Singh was driving for Poker Transport Inc of Ontario, California and hauling household items.
The eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed for approximately ninety minutes to remove the injured and crash clean-up. No official reroute of traffic occurred.
The crash was investigated by ISP Master Trooper Matt Ames. Assisting were ISP Troopers Brandon Mullen and Ritch Reynolds, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Putnam County Operation Life, and Cloverdale Fire/Rescue.
Media Note: No pictures of the crash are available.
