Second Man in Custody and Charged with Seven Counts of Attempted Murder for June Shooting on East End Street

In an ongoing investigation, Jackson police have arrested and charged a second man for shooting into a house full of people on East End Street on June 12.

On June 17, investigators signed an arrest warrant for Kijuan Murphy, 20, of Jackson, charging him with seven counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Jackson officers arrested Murphy around midnight during a traffic stop. Murphy gave police a false name, and officers subsequently found a small amount of marijuana in his pants pocket. He faces additional charges for criminal impersonation and possession of marijuana.

Murphy will have a bond set Saturday morning, and his arraignment is scheduled for 8 a.m. Monday in Jackson City Court.

Around 11 p.m. on June 12, officers responded to a shooting on East End St. As police were responding, officers passed a car speeding away from the scene. Officers later learned that the car was driven by Christopher Minor, 20, who had been injured.

When police arrived, they learned that the home at 101 East End had been shot into numerous times. At the time of the shooting, the house was occupied by seven people, one of which was Minor. The seven people included a 21-year-old woman and her 4-month-old son. The mother and infant were transported by ambulance to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital for gunshot wounds. The mother and infant were both transferred to Memphis hospitals.

Minor, who had driven the car away from the scene, drove to East Baltimore Street. Investigators learned that he had also been shot while inside the house. He was transported by ambulance from East Baltimore to Jackson General Hospital.

Investigators developed information that Damian McFarland and Kijuan Murphy were two of at least four people responsible for the shooting.

McFarland, 19, was arrested June 15 in Jackson. The case against him was bound to the action of the grand jury following a June 26 preliminary hearing in City Court. He remains in custody at the Madison County Jail on $500,000 bond.

The infant was released from Lebonheur Children's Hospital the day after the shooting. As of today, the 21-year-old woman remains in the care of a medical facility.

Investigators are pursuing leads and attempting to identify the other two people involved.
