Crash in Noble County Takes the Life of Man From Garrett

(Noble County, IN)-The Indiana State Police is investigating a crash that occurred this morning between a tank truck and a motorcycle that claimed the life of a man from Garrett.

Preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Marc Leatherman indicated that at approximately 10:00 a.m., a 1999 Freightliner truck, driven by 62 year old Richard Smith of LaGrange, with an attached tank was traveling northbound on County Road 600 E when it stopped at the intersection with Baseline Road. The truck proceeded into the intersection as an eastbound 2009 Harley Davidson, operated by 39 year old Merlin Isaac, Jr. of Garrett, crested the hill immediately to the west.

Isaac's motorcycle struck the truck broadside and as a result, Isaac suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Smith was not injured. This crash remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, the Noble County Sheriff Department, Avilla Police and Fire Departments and the Noble County EMS.
