Peru – Last night, a two month long criminal investigation by Indiana State Police Senior Trooper Mike Lorona, Trooper Wendell Beachy, and officers from the Miami County Drug Task Force resulted in the arrests of Melissa Elliot, 42, Peru, IN, and Jared Clemons, 29, rural Peru, IN. They were incarcerated in the Miami County Jail to face a total of three felony charges and two misdemeanor counts.

Thursday, at approximately 9:15 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police, the Peru Police Department, and the Miami County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant on Elliot’s home at 220 West Seventh Street in Peru. During their search, officers allegedly found methamphetamine and numerous items of drug paraphernalia.

When officers executed the warrant they also found two boys ages two and five. The boys were purportedly in the care of Elliot while their mother was at work. They were released back to the custody of their mother. Elliot and Clemons were incarcerated in the Miami County Jail. They each face a felony charge for possession of methamphetamine and a misdemeanor count for possession of drug paraphernalia. Elliot also faces an additional felony charge for neglect of a dependent.
