Beginning August 8, 2014, N/B I-15, (5) Weekends, 65 hour Road Closures
I-15 Cajon Pass 65-Hour Weekend Lane Closures
San Bernardino, CA – The Interstate 15 (I-15) Cajon Pass Rehabilitation Project between Kenwood Avenue and Highway 395 continues with pavement resurfacing and restoration. The $120 million project is replacing concrete slabs in the Cajon Pass that are beyond their life cycle with the benefit of extending pavement service life (for up to 40 years) with minimal maintenance.
Lane closures have been taking place day and night since the work began in early summer 2014. Starting Friday night, August 8th, up to five weekends of 65-hour lane closures are required on I-15 northbound between Highway 138 and Oak Hill Road. Lanes will be reduced from four to three (and two lanes during off peak hours) for approximately one mile in length each weekend, consecutively moving uphill. Motorists are advised that there will be significant traffic delays for northbound traffic during the 65-hour extended lane closure period and are encouraged to use alternate routes, adjust travel times, or rideshare.
The method of paving utilized over 65-hour weekends provides a longer pavement life cycle (expected 40 years). The weekend closures are similar to ones that took place several years ago for the Devore Paving projects, at the bottom of the Cajon Pass. The scheduled 65-hour weekend lane closures are as follows:

Shoulder access is limited throughout the project; we are asking motorists not to use existing shoulders to allow for emergency responder access. Vehicles blocking emergency response vehicles may be cited. Be reminded that a 60 MPH speed limit will be strictly enforced by CHP and construction zones are subject to double fines.
Please “ease up on the gas in the Pass”, slow down and be alert for road workers, law enforcement, emergency responders, and tow trucks and their drivers.
