Husband and Wife Arrested on Animal Neglect Allegations
Owen County—Today, Indiana State Police Master Trooper Troy Cobb arrested a Terre Haute couple on an Owen County warrant for one count each of misdemeanor animal neglect.
Arrested: Jimmy Joe Ornduff, age 43, of Terre Haute, IN.
Taken to Vigo County Jail.
Stacey Lynn Ornduff, age 41, of Terre Haute, IN.
Taken to Vigo County Jail
The ISP investigation began on June 2 of this year, after the Putnamville Post received a tip about possible animal neglect at 512 and 514 Croft Road in Coal City (Owen County). ISP obtained a search warrant for the residence and property and, during the search, officers found rabbits and guinea pigs living in squalid conditions inside an abandoned house trailer and inside an outdoor tarp roofed structure. The extreme smell of urine permeated through the air and at times, approximately five to six inches of feces covered the cage floors. Troopers seized 31 rabbits from the tarp roofed structure and 4 rabbits and 2 guinea pigs from the abandoned trailer. The animals were seized and placed in the custody of the Helping Pawz Animal Rescue and Outreach, pending the judicial process. The investigators believe a small number of rabbits may have perished prior to the post receiving the tip which started the investigation.
The case was investigated by ISP Master Trooper Troy Cobb. Assisting were ISP Detective First Sergeant Jeff Hearon, Trooper Randall VanArsdale, Master Trooper Jason Owen, Owen County Prosecutor’s Office, and Helping Pawz Animal Rescue and Outreach.
Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
