POLICE ALERT: A bear has been present in Westfield. Use caution when outdoors. Contact Westfield Police if observed.

Chief David Wayman of the Westfield Police Department has reported the presence of a bear in the northside areas of town adjacent to Mountainside.

Chief Wayman advises all residents to be alert and to use caution when outdoors. Keep a close on your children and pets.

For your safety, if seen, DO NOT APPROACH the bear, DO NOT FEED the bear, and DO NOT PHOTOGRAPH the bear.

If seen, contact the Westfield Police Department and leave the area immediately.

Chief Wayman also advises residents to properly secure and cover their garbage so as not to attract any bears.
