Bomb Hoax at Tank Park
On 08/06/2014 at approximately 2:56PM, Green Bay police officers responded to Tank Park, 830 5th St., on a report that a juvenile playing in the park had in his possession and presented a bomb to other children in the park. The children promptly reported this to the Parkees that immediately called 911 and began to move children to safety within the park shelter, away from the juvenile with the device.
Upon arrival by police, the juvenile in question was taken into custody. A small black leather wrapped item (about the size of a pen) with a small piece of thread sticking out of it was found in the subject's pocket. This was NOT an explosive device, but since the juvenile presented it as a bomb, he was subsequently charged and will be sent to juvenile detention.
The public was never in any danger from this hoax. The juvenile's name will not be released due to his age. There is no further information to be released at this time regarding this incident.
The Green Bay Police Department wants to remind everyone that bombs, firearms and anything that could harm another person are not joking matters and any threats indicating possession or intent to use any of those items, whether actual or just a hoax, will be treated as real, including criminal charges and jail time for pranks.
