Child Abduction Arrest

SANTA BARBARA, CA – August 5, 2014

On August 4, 2014 at 8:20 p.m., Santa Barbara Police Department detectives received notification that Joshua Ivan Martinez had been taken into custody by the San Diego Police Department SWAT Team and that Nayeli Martinez had been safely recovered. Both were located in a mobile home in San Ysidro, California, near the Mexican border. The Amber Alert for San Diego County issued in this case was subsequently canceled.

Joshua Ivan Martinez was booked into the San Diego County Jail on a $150,000.00 arrest warrant obtained by SBPD detectives for the crimes of spousal battery, kidnapping, and child endangerment. Detectives are currently making arrangements for his extradition to Santa Barbara.

Nayeli Martinez was found in good health. She was placed in the care of a San Diego emergency youth shelter, pending reunification with her mother.

SANTA BARBARA, CA – August 4, 2014 On August 3, 2014 at 8:14 p.m., Nayeli Martinez was abducted from Santa Barbara, California, following an incident of domestic violence. Nayeli Martinez is a 6-month old Hispanic female, 26 inches tall and 17 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing a white onesie with black polka dots.

The suspect is her father, Joshua Ivan Martinez. Joshua Ivan Martinez is a 28-year old Hispanic male, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 187 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes and beard, last seen wearing a black t-shirt, black shorts, white socks, and green, white, and black DC shoes.

The suspect was last seen driving a 2013 black Ford Focus 4-door with red and white Garcia Auto Sales paper plates. Investigation indicates the suspect and victim may now be in San Diego County and are possibly en route to Mexico.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children has issued an Amber Alert for San Diego County for this case.
