Deputy charges pair with possession of methamphetamine following traffic stop 
Deputy Adam Burnette of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged 36-year-old Jason Ray Mayberry, of Orchard Road in Bakersville, and 38-year-old William Doris Byrd Jr., of Longview Drive in Burnsville, each with one felony count of possession of methamphetamine.
On Monday, July 28, at approximately 11 p.m., Burnette stopped a vehicle on U.S. 221 North because the rear taillight was out. Byrd was driving the Ford Escort and Mayberry was the passenger.
A subsequent search of the automobile turned up 1 gram of methamphetamine.
